Business Services Giant Radius Partners With Aston Barclay For UK-Wide EV Charging Project

Mar 2, 2024

Crewe-based global fleet and connectivity leader Radius has been appointed by Aston Barclay to improve EV charging infrastructure.

The car auction and remarketing provider has chosen Radius to support its aim to achieve Electric Vehicle Approved (EVA) accreditation across all six of its sites by 2024, already having this accreditation for its Donington Park center in Derby.

Radius will oversee the implementation of modern charging points that optimize the latest technologies and comply with PAS:1899, the standard that ensures that charging points are accessible to all, take into account the local environment and are aligned with standards for location, provision of information and design.

Radius' partnership with Aston Barclay follows a £10m investment in its EV division. After Radius acquired two EV solutions companies, the funds were earmarked in 2023 to invest in charging hardware and grow the division's talented team.

Ben Thompson, Managing Director, EV and Energy at Radius, said: “With its progressive and ambitious outlook, we are extremely excited to be working with Aston Barclay. We will oversee the design and implementation of EV charging solutions that fit the business not just now, but into the future.

“With net zero targets approaching and operating costs rising, businesses across the UK are starting to embrace the potential of EVs and it is so exciting to see how Aston Barclay is leading the way for its industry in this endeavour. We look forward to helping our new partner achieve their EVA goals in the coming year.”

Implementation of EV charging will begin in early 2024 at the Aston Barclay center in Wakefield, and plans are underway for further work throughout the year.

Albert Parnell, EV Group Leader at Aston Barclay, said: “As an organisation, we understand the need to adapt to a more EV-oriented landscape and have invested heavily in marketing and training around electric vehicles for our colleagues, customers and partners, so partnering with Radius, which will improve infrastructure across all our sites, seems like the natural next step.

"We look forward to working with the team and utilizing their expertise to deliver a world-class experience for EV users on our sites."

Radius provides business technology solutions in 19 countries on five continents. Founded in 1990 in Crewe, the company is still based in the town today.

EV and energy from Radius provides charging infrastructure and software for both business and home use, helping to power the EV transition by helping customers move from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to hybrid and all-electric vehicles, and to reduce overall energy consumption and costs.
